LEVEL 9: SACRED

After returning to ground
level, go north along the wall to the dark area that harbored two bats. Get on
the low block just before the recess begins. Place her right foot off the block
a bit. The arch bug works on the corner to the right, but oddly: Lara appears
on top of the wall after a vertical jump or run forward, starts to fall back,
but "rejumps", ending standing on the wall.
From there, she can walk/run south over the irregular
top of the wall to a steep slope, or she can go north a square, then crawl
around the corner to the top of the north wall (or run just over the inside
corner, so she reaches the north wall before she drops too far to regain her
footing).

At the doorway of green stone on the north
side of the lake, the left corner on the outer face allows a crawl bug to the
roof. From a lower section, jump south to more wall tops.
TWO CLIMBING POLES: Lara can use the corner bug instead of climbing the
second pole. Could be a little quicker.
I still have
“Canopic Jar 1”, having used the trigger bug instead of opening the
door to the Great Hypostyle Hall.. The title shows in the inventory, but there
is no picture above it.
BUILDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE
SMALL POOL WITH TWO OBELISKS: The corner bug works at the left side of the south
entrance frame, but none of the similar spots in the area. Sneaky, or an
oversight. Lara can jump to the other side of the frame; or to the sloping
block to the east, then to the door frame to the north, then to a sloping
triangle on the outer edge of the wall. Nothing else to do.
Almost all corners
show crawl-corner bugs.
When using the Sun Talisman,
I experienced a game crash. Doing it with lowest resolution, windowed mode
worked.
After using the Sun
Talisman, through the south door, it's not necessary to jump to the pole from
the doorway. Stand almost to the left edge of the drop-off, hop back, take a
running jump with Action to the flares.
ROOM WITH HUGE PILLARS: Outside the room with pedestals,
both sides of the corner at left permit crawl bugs which return Lara to the
shelf she just dropped from. On the right side, both faces of the corner trap
Lara in the wall.
The outside
faces of the doorway between the two Set statues allow crawl-corner bugs to
lift Lara to the wall top.
She can move
right and around the corner, but jumps to the slopes by the platforms on
pillars, or straight to the platform itself, were just short.
LEVEL 10: TOMB OF SEMERKHET
ENTRANCE AND
BEETLE ROOMS: On the MIDDLE level, crawling into the the northeast corner and
then jumping leads to music playing and the howling of dogs. It makes no
difference in the ROOM WITH POOLS AND FLAME NICHES, where the same music plays
and two dogs appear (howling).
If you plan on losing the senet game (to get all the secrets), a better
use for the torch you find on the middle level is to take it with you all the
way to the ROOM WITH THREE DANGLING ROPES. You can light it first, or wait till
your destination.
SENET GAME
BOARD: As you first look at the game board from the shelf at one end, the two
corners to the left and right allow Lara to be trapped in the wall by crawling
into it, from either face. But if you attempt a regular corner bug at any of
the four faces, Lara has body parts still sticking out of the wall. Crawling makes
no change. She can exit the wall by jumping with an arrow key, though you may
have to try several directions. I don’t see any triggering, though the
different kinds of wall entry are identical to the opening of the exit door in
Catacombs.
The two corners
by the first two work the same.
The corner near the ladder to secret #1 allows a corner bug to
lift Lara to the secret, but it requires a quick roll after the bug works. The
corresponding corner on the other side of the room does nothing.
As Stella points out, Lara can jump from the game board to catch the edge
of the game-spinner area, then pull up THROUGH the railing.
On three occasions, while turning to move to the colored squares, I fell
THROUGH the floor!
ROOM WITH POOLS AND FLAME NICHES: I found no bugs
in this room, except inside the lozenge-shaped openings that meet at the
southeast and southwest corners. A running jump from a corner of the platform
along the south side of the central structure gets you there. Lara becomes
trapped after crawling into either face; normal corner bugs don’t work.
ROOM WITH SIX
FLAME NICHES: The corner
touching the pool allows bugs only on the left face. The crawl-corner bug traps
Lara permanently; the corner bug leaves bits of her outside the walls, and at certain
angles she can jump out. I didn’t see anything triggered by jumping,
turning, crawling.
Back in the main
room, the corner of each gold cage with ground level on both faces allows a
crawl-corner bug at each face.
After losing
the senet game –
In the room above secret #3, the two corners with the same level
on both faces allow crawl bugs which permanently trap Lara in the wall, and
regular corner bugs which allow her to jump out of the wall.
In the secret
room below, all four corners trap Lara permanently when she crawls into any of
the eight faces. On about half the faces, corner bugs imbed her but she can
jump out again. Moving while in the wall didn’t appear to trigger any
actions.
Above the following room, no bugs exist.
ROOM WITH TWO DANGLING
ROPES: At
the bottom of the pole in the southeast corner, a corner bug with Roll puts
Lara back up in the small room. Of course, Lara can simply climb the pole.
The corner below
the climbing pole allows a corner bug back to the pole’s level.
The two corners
with the middle level below both faces allow regular and crawl-corner bugs at
all four faces.
The above three
facts are also true of the pole in the northeast corner.
On the middle level, the
corners in front of the two red wall squares allow the corner bug.
A running jump
from the ledge in front of secret #4
allows Lara to catch the ladder on the north wall.
On the ground
level, no regular corner bugs work. Crawl-corner bugs work at on both faces of
all corners, except on the other face of a corner with a cartouche receptacle
on one side. But unless the corner is below one of the two diagonals on the
middle level, Lara just slips back to ground.
You can avoid the ropes by dropping to the middle
level, then taking a running jump to the slope to the right.
Slide backwards down the slope, catching the lip.
Then drop behind the small bench with no damage.
Cross the floor, then climb the ladder and sideways
around the corner to the left. Drop to the middle level and climb into the
crawlspace.
In the room at the top of the stairs, the corner
behind the floor switch traps Lara permanently after a crawl bug.
In the room
beyond the crawlspace, The column at the end of the elevated walkway permits
crawl bugs at the two corners under the walkway. Of course, Lara can just jump
and catch from the block at the end of the walkway.
BA CARTOUCHE DOOR: The corners of the
upper-level side columns by the hammer trap Lara permanently with crawl bugs,
from both faces of each corner. The left face of the west corner allows her to
enter the corner with a normal corner bug, and to jump out; but no triggers are
actuated within the corner.
The corner bug works from
the ground floor at both sides of the black switch. Either should be faster
than going through the crawlspace to get back to the upper level so the switch
can be pulled. Or perform a crawl bug at the right
corner of the crawl space or either of the faces outside the passage to the
next room. Also, use one of the last two for the timed run AFTER you pull the
switch; they’re much faster than the climbing poles.
In the north
room, the corner bug works by the west climbing pole.
RA CARTOUCHE DOOR/ROOM WITH THREE DANGLING ROPES: The corner at the left of the entrance traps Lara with a
crawl bug on either face. A corner bug (only on the left face) imbeds her
partially; she can jump out.
Many of the
corners between the pillars of secret #5
trap Lara with crawl bugs, or suck her in temporarily with regular corner
bugs, but none allow any triggering while inside the corner.
If you brought
the first torch with you as I suggested in the second paragraph of this level,
drop it for a minute to deal with secret
#5, then take it to the next room and light the two torches, opening the
trapdoor to secret #6. When you return from secret #6, crawl
into one of the corners
of the entrance archway to the ROOM WITH
THE CLIMBING POLE, and arrive at the top level. Follow the passageway to an
opening in the ceiling. This way, you can skip all the business in this room to
raise the ledge and get the usual torch from the niche.
By the way, if
you retrieve the second torch anyway, the game does a good job of not confusing
the two, but you can’t pick up both at the same time. If both torches are
lit, when you drop the second one, the torch already on the ground flickers as
if it’s about to go out, but it returns to full strength if you pick it
up. And lighting the second torch recloses the trap to secret #6 !?! Attempting
to “light” the already-lit wall torches doesn’t reopen the
trap.
You can
extinguish a torch by dropping it in water, but you must be able to pick it up
and jump or walk out of the pool, since Lara can’t use her hands while
holding a torch. Diving into water while holding it does not put out a torch.
You can’t relight one portable torch from another.
Avoid the ropes by using the corner bug near the exit
to the hallway with the three prizes for secret
#5. Use the corner of the pillar on the column. The step on one side of the
corner helps you line up your jumps. Then do a standing jump to the hallway.
Walk out the other end to hear the "secrets" arpeggio.
All the columns with pillars
in the room allow the corner bug. Lara can't walk around the pillars, but she
can hang and traverse around them. Instead of using the third rope to get to
the ROOM WITH THE CLIMBING POLE,
traverse left as far as you can, pull up, then take a standing jump to catch
the platform ahead.
After pulling
down the black switch, the corner next to the landing square permits Lara to
rise to the upper walkway with a crawl-corner bug (right face only). The next
corner to the right also works, with crawl bugs on both faces, and a jump bug
on the left face.
Below the ledge
you raised, the two corners between the three pillars allow crawl bugs on all
four faces, and regular corner bugs on the three faces on the right.
On the ground
floor of the same room, all four faces between the three pillars on the right
(in the northeast corner) raise Lara to the top level walkway, with both corner
and crawl bugs. That’s also true of the rightmost face in the northwest
corner, but the other three faces temporarily trap her with both corner and
crawl bugs. At the entrance archway, the crawl bug works at all four faces, but
the regular corner bug works only at the right face of the south corner.
After tossing the torch to the floor, don't bother to
return to the ROOM WITH THREE DANGLING ROPES. Just drop down from the wide
ledge. The damage is about 1%.
After winning the senet game –
The two corners
by the hallway after the exit from the senet game room allow Lara to enter the
wall with vertical jumps. She can exit the wall with Jump + an arrow key. Nothing appears to be triggered.
I took along the (burning) torch from MIDDLE level above the beetle room.
I had to leave it with the beetles.
ROOM WITH MIRRORS REFLECTING LIGHT BEAMS: The two column
corners behind mirrors (at the end of the room with the two dogs) allow Lara to
enter them on both faces of each corner. If she uses a crawl bug, she’s
trapped permanently; if it’s a regular corner bug, she can jump out with
a direction key. The corner between the two openings at the top of the nearby
climbing pole works the same. None of these corners seems to trigger anything.
LEVEL 11: GUARDIAN OF SEMERKHET: After retrieving the Golden Vraeus, arch bug
possibilities are seen below the wheel. The right side doesn't work at all; the
left side tries to work, but the wheel mounting covers the corner, and Lara
always falls back. Using Roll or jumping forward or right doesn’t help.
The same goes for the other face of the corner.
Crawl-corner bugs
work on both sides of all four corners of the wheel structure, but Lara falls
back at the two corners toward the Golden Vraeus. The back corners provide a shortcut to the exit. Seen in Ewil’s speed run.
Instead of climbing into the opening behind the
structure under the wheel, perform the corner bug at its left side (from ground
level). Lara appears in the opening behind the wheel where she entered the
room! The right edge of the opening below does nothing.
BIG ROOM WITH
EYE SYMBOLS: The back corners of the two eye symbol columns flanking the entrance
allow Lara to rise to the top using crawl-corner bugs. The two rooms above the
walkway around the main room are open as usual.
Descend the
ladder to enjoy a view of the bull’s head sticking through the large
door; but don’t get too close, the head can gore our heroine even through the door.
Getting the bull to smash the two side-by-side eye symbols opens the door
on the right.
The corner of the ladder to the upper level allows a crawl bug, but only
on the ladder face.
BEFORE DESERT RAILROAD: I had a game crash as the FMV showing Lara getting
on the railroad ended. I reran in Software Mode, 640x480 16-bit. Worked.
LEVEL 12: DESERT RAILROAD
A crawl-corner
bug on the face below the opening lifts Lara through the roof of the boxcar. Or
use a regular corner bug with Roll before or after.
She can jump to the engine and walk to the
cowcatcher. But be careful not to step off the front; the train runs right over
her. Read in several places.
If you continue
backwards over the SLEEPING CAR after
bugging to the roof of the boxcar, only one assassin jumps to the EMPTY FLATCAR, not two. But be sure to
open the boxcar door with the lever first, or you can’t return.
